Hippo Campus Was Formed In 2013 By Jake Luppen Lead Vocals & Guitar Nathan Stocker Lead Guitar & Vocals Zach Sutton Bass & Keys And Whistler Allen Drums & Vocals After The Four-Piece Met At The St. Paul Conservatory For Performing Artists. Their First EP Was Released That Same Year But Was Taken Down When 2015 EPs Bashful Creatures And South Was Dropped. The Band's First LP Landmark Was Released In Early 2017 And Was Followed By Warm Glow EP . During This Time DeCarlo Jackson Trumpet Bass & Percussion Who Had Been In A Band With Nathan And Whistler In High School Started Touring With The Band. In 2018 The Band Released Their Second LP Bambi.

“Baseball” Is The Opening Track Of Hippo Campus' Third EP Warm Glow. The Track Has Been Played At Hippo Campus Shows For A Long Time Prior To Release With The First Recorded Live Version Posted On May 3 2016. It Was Originally Set To Be The Closing Track On Landmark But Was Replaced With “Buttercup” Relatively Late In The Recording Process. Nathan Stocker The Band Guitarist Touched On This Decision More We Always Wanted It To Be Out In The World Doing Its Thing. I Think It’s Tryna Decide Like In What Light It Should Exist I Guess. In What World It Should Exist? It Didn’t Really Fit With Landmark So We Kinda Just Waited On It. "I’m Pretty Sure It Was A Joke Like “let’s Call It Baseball.” We’ll Record Voice Memos On Our Phones When We’re Jamming Out Ideas And Somebody Will Just Throw Out Down Name For It. Baseball Was Just Thrown Down As The Voice Memo Name. We Just Wrote Some Lyrics That Had Baseball." - Hippo Campus For GOMN

“Baseball” is the opening track of Hippo Campus' third EP Warm Glow. The track has been played at Hippo Campus shows for a long time prior to release, with the first recorded live version posted on May 3, 2016. It was originally set to be the closing track on Landmark, but was replaced with “Buttercup” relatively late in the recording process. Nathan Stocker, the band guitarist touched on this decision more:
We always wanted it to be out in the world, doing its thing. I think it’s tryna decide like in what light it should exist, I guess. In what world it should exist? It didn’t really fit with Landmark so we kinda just waited on it.
"I’m pretty sure it was a joke, like “let’s call it Baseball.” We’ll record voice memos on our phones when we’re jamming out ideas and somebody will just throw out down name for it. Baseball was just thrown down as the voice memo name. We just wrote some lyrics that had baseball."
